Virginia M-Y Lee is the John H. Ware 3rd Endowed Professor in Alzheimer's Research, Director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, and the Marian S. Ware Center for Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Program at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Lee is best known for her work in characterizing proteins that form pathological inclusions in various neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration (or FTLD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or ALS). Together with her late husband Dr. John Trojanowski, her work implied tau misfold as a major player in Alzheimer’s disease.
