Professor Thomas Meyer

Thomas Meyer is Director of the ALS Center at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Trained at Charité and the University of Ulm, he began his career with laboratory research on glutamate transporter genetics in ALS. A board-certified neurologist and palliative care specialist, he founded Berlin’s multidisciplinary ALS Center in 2002, integrating specialized care, clinical research and trials. Since 2010, he has pioneered digital patient services and co-founded the ALS App. His research focuses on ALS motor phenotyping, biomarker evaluation and digitally facilitated care pathways. In 2025, he led the initiative introducing the ALS-OPM phenotype classification for clinical practice and ALS trials.
