Mariska Vansteensel, PhD, obtained her PhD in 2006 in circadian rhythmicity and joined the Utrecht-BCI lab in 2007. She is the immediate Past President of the International BCI Society and currently co-leads the Clinical Study Endpoints working group of the iBCI Collaborative Community. Her research aims to advance implantable electrocorticography (ECoG)-based implantable brain-computer interfaces (iBCIs) for people with severe motor impairment. She contributed to the first worldwide studies of fully implantable BCIs for daily-life use and now focuses on higher-dimensional control and efficient BCI communication. She promotes user-centered BCI development and evaluation, and ethically responsible clinical implementation of iBCIs.
